Chapter Ten

Wylde thought Verity was hot before he’d had sex with her.

Now, as she sashayed down the hallway, holding his hand and leading him toward the temple’s kitchen, all he could see was her nearly naked body under him. Squirming. Her voice calling his name. Her frantic hold on him as he plunged into her.

He shoved away that image.

Get a fucking grip, he chastised himself. She’d asked him to fuck her… once. That was not an open invitation to sex again, even if they were in the temple of debauchery. Or to obsess about making her come. Because apparently, she’d had an orgasm, and he’d somehow missed it, lost in his own damn pleasure, and then she’d passed out in this terrifying trance state that her vision brought on.

That had scared the shit out of him.

And then she was fine.

The whole thing turned him inside out. He wanted to haul her into one of the purification rooms and make love to her the right way—now that they were past the whole “let’s lose your virginity” silliness. She seemed to have recovered from that well—his healing magick probably had helped—and now her freshly-scrubbed skin and slightly-damp hair were tormenting him. But what if she passed out again? What if this vision thing was worse when he was actually trying to make her come? How much of an asshole did it make him that he was dying to find out anyway?

The whole thing was probably moot.

Verity Strange did not need someone like him in her life. Now that Eliphas’s spell over her was broken, she needed to get extricated from the case and sent home to have a normal life with some normal guy who would help her figure out this passing-out-during-sex thing.

She hadn’t invited him to be that guy.

Or to fall in love with her. Not that he was.

But damn… he couldn’t tear his eyes away from her pert little behind under that barely-there skirt. Her dress left her bare in the back and hardly covered her bouncing breasts in the front. Verity’s breasts were the kind that Ancient Greek sculptors made statues in honor of. The memory of them exposed, jostling as he thrust into her, went straight to the mental file he would be using for all his personal shower sessions going forward.

Fuck. Get your head in the game.

Yelling at himself in his head only partially helped.

“So, you think we can grab something to eat while we’re in the kitchen?” he asked just to short circuit those thoughts. And he was famished. He’d been up all night with Violet, and sex always made him hungry.

Verity gave him a half smile. “Sounds like a good excuse. Breakfast is probably over, so we can say we want to make ourselves something.”

“You can do that?”

She full-on grinned. “If you’re in with Eliphas, you can do almost anything.” Then her smile tempered. “That won’t last much longer.”

Wylde frowned. “I’m getting you out of here before he figures that out. No need for you to be around when that happens.
